Referred and Deferred examinations
Referred examinations
A referred examination is a second attempt at an examination following initial failure of a module. This is normally undertaken in August/September. The mark for a referred module is capped at the pass mark, i.e. 40% for undergraduates and 50% for taught postgraduates. There is a fee payable by students taking referred assessment, further information can be found on the University's information on Referred and Deferred examinations.
Deferred examinations
A deferred examination is allowed in certain circumstances, normally where a student has failed a module due to mitigating circumstances experienced across a period of study. Deferred exams are normally taken in August/September, or at the next available opportunity. Marks for a deferred module are not capped.
Modules assessed entirely by coursework are normally reassessed by coursework only, although there may be exceptions to this.
