Professional Accreditation of Programmes (Renewable Energy)
Our specialist engineering degrees are accredited by Professional Engineering Institutions under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). All accredited programmes are mapped to the Engineering Council's output standards, as described in their Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes (AHEP) document. A summary of the AHEP learning outcomes is available here: AHEP collated learning outcomes with mapping codes
An accredited MEng degree fully satisfyies the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
An accredited BEng/BSc degree: 1. fully satisfyies the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and 2. partially satisfies the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng). A programme of accredited further learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng.
An accredited MSc degree meets the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree.
Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
A list of the College's accredited Renewable Energy degree programmes, and the associated accrediting Professional Institution is provided below. Note that some degree programmes may be under application for accreditation; if you are unsure of the accredited status of your degree programme, please contact the Accreditation Team.
Degree Programme | Accreditation Status | Professional Body |
---|---|---|
BEng (Hons) Energy Engineering / Renewable Energy Engineering | Accredited | Energy Institute (EI) |
MEng Energy Engineering / Renewable Energy Engineering | Accredited | Energy Institute (EI) |
MEng Renewable Energy / Renewable Energy Engineering | Accredited | Energy Institute (EI) |
BSc (Hons) Renewable Energy | Accredited | Energy Institute (EI) |
MSc Renewable Energy Engineering | Accredited | Energy Institute (EI) |
Accreditation is awarded for a maximum of 5 years under each assessment exercise. The dates applicable to the current accreditation of our engineering degree programmes can be viewed on the Engineering Council list of accredited degrees: www.engc.org.uk
Students are strongly encouraged to join the Professional Institution that accredits their pogramme of study; student membership normally attracts a reduced fee, or is free. For further information, refer to Student membership.
Routes to chartership
The award of an accredited degree from Exeter will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for subsequent registration (following professional development and experience) as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
The following flow chart demonstrates the possible routes to professional chartership.
Further information
Further details of the requirements and benefits of registering as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer are available from the Engineering Council.
