Programme costs

Please note: This information is relevant for students entering from 2012/13 onwards only.

This page aims to outline the additional costs, over and above the tuition fee, that undergraduate students will experience whilst studying for a Computer Science programme.

This information is based on advice from students studying in 2011/12 and has been reviewed by student representatives for the course on an annual basis. This page is intended to be a useful resource to prospective and new students, therefore please do feed through any further suggestions through your departmental SSLC.

Computer

It is not essential for you to have access to your own computer or laptop in order to successfully complete this programme.  There are sufficient IT resources throughout the University campus that are available throughout the day.

Textbooks

It is not necessary for you to purchase the books required for the programmes, as there are sufficient copies in the library.

Other expenses

There may be some additional printing costs relating to project work which are estimated to cost £15 per year.

ITMB trips

There are a number of trips undertaken as part of the BSc IT Management for Business, such as the ITMB Student Event (South).  The College will arrange and cover the costs of all travel for these compulsory events.

Industrial placements

Should you opt to take the Commercial and Industrial Experience (CandI) module (EMP3001) then you may accrue commuting and refreshment expenses. This will be dependent on where you live during this time and therefore the costs are estimated to be anything from £700 to £1,100 for the eight week period. However, students typically receive a salary for this placement, or have their expenses fully covered by their placement employer. The costs that a student may incur can vary dependent on the location of the placement and the agreement reached with the employer.

“(the salary) covered all the extra costs incurred by doing an industrial placement. All costs such as accommodation and relocation were easily taken care of by this salary”
