Where can I study?

Modern Languages and Cultures students have the opportunity to choose from many different partner universities within Europe, and a number outside of Europe. This page should be able to inform you better about your choices.

Where?

One of the main things that you will want to ascertain is where you are able to study. In order to find this out, you should visit the Global Opportunities Outbound website, where they have an exhaustive list of all of the partner universities with whom we have an exchange agreement.

Please bear in mind that you can only study at our partner universities listed under your language. You will not, therefore, be able to apply to study at any institution with whom we do not have an exchange agreement.

How do we allocate places?

Grades from your first year

This is the most important variable when we are considering your application. Our decision as to which students are allocated places at different partner universities is entirely dependent on first year grade average results. This means that you must work hard in your first year if you want to improve your chances of getting your first choice of placement!

What are my chances?

Many students are often worried that they don't have any real chance of being successful in applying to particularly popular universities. The number of places available at a partner university is neither indicative of how popular it is, nor of how likely you are to be successful in your application. Therefore, it's impossible to say how likely it is a student will get their top choice as it depends on a number of factors: how many places at that university, how many students apply for it and the first-year grade averages of the students who apply.

Also, remember that it's not the location that makes your year studying abroad one of the most exciting of your life, it's what you do to make the most of it. As such, if you don't get your first or second preferences, for example, don't assume that this means that you won't have a good or productive time - in the end everyone has a memorable time! The more you put into it, the more you get out of it!
