DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

The total quality management philosophies is as an integral part within operations and supply chain management. It emphasises on continually improving operations within a supply chain framework by integrating total quality concepts and improvement techniques (i.e., selecting a supplier or locating a facility by taking into account quality/ risk criteria or designing logistics/ supplier chain service by applying Quality Function Deployment methodology). You will  also learn  the role of service quality in a supply chain network to deliver customer-driven excellence within an organisation as well as new challenges and the future of managing quality in a supply chain network. This module encompasses supplier selection and facility location selection in a supply chain network, incorporating JIT quality philosophy to contiously improve logistics chain service, the importance of digital technologies (software-based approaches) to measure customer satisfaction, total quality management applications for a resilient supply chain, among others.

AIMS - intentions of the module
The aim of this module is  to systematically deliver comprehensive features and functions of total quality management principles within operations and supply chain management framework. The role of quality is emphasised to provide strategic solutions to tackle operational supply chain challenges not only in manufacturing sectors but also in service business organisations. Upon completing the module, you will be equipped with analytical skills to design and deploy total quality strategies to deal with quality challenges for improving supply chain performances. 
 
You will also acquire managerial skills to develop guidelines, goals, and systematic effective quality management procedures in a supply chain network, should you seek managerial positions in the future.

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

1. Understand the quality management principles and methodologies to underpin supply chain management.
2. Apply the relevant methods, tools and problem-solving skills effectively in the analysis and solution of different supply chain quality management problems.
3. Evaluate the quality performance of supply chain management framework from multiple dimensions.
4. Demonstrate the ability to generate proper design for supply chain quality management to fulfil needs.
5. Understand the limitations and the knowledge required for continuous improvement of a certain/designed supply chain quality management method.
