MODULE CODEENGM028 MODULE CONVENERUnknown
DURATION: TERM 1 2 3
DURATION: WEEKS 11 11 11
Number of Students Taking Module (anticipated) 20
DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module will provide you with extensive practical work experience in an industrial business that is of direct relevance to your development as an experienced professional.
You will get the chance to apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired from taught modules to authentic problem solving in the work place. Collaborating with your work placement employer, you will identify an engineering-based project that will constitute your MSc dissertation. Ideally, the dissertation should be based on the work that you will undertake during the placement, but this is not compulsory.

The placement will involve a substantial technical role in the host organisation. Individual placements are subject to availability and approval by the programme coordinator.

Pre-requisite and co-requisite modules: NO

The module is suitable for non-specialist students.

AIMS - intentions of the module

The industrial placement will give you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that you have obtained from taught modules to real engineering situations at a professional level. You will be expected to use your own initiative and creativity to integrate the knowledge that you have gained in several areas of your degree programme to deliver appropriate technical solutions in a professional manner.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)

This is a constituent module of one or more degree programmes which are accredited by a professional engineering institution under licence from the Engineering Council. The learning outcomes for this module have been mapped to the output standards required for an accredited programme, as listed in the current version of the Engineering Council’s ‘Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes’ document (AHEP-V3).
The module contributes to learning outcomes: SM2fl, EA1fl, EA3fl, D1fl, D2fl, D3fl, ET1fl, ET2fl, ET4fl, ET5fl, ET6fl, EP2fl, EP3fl, EP4fl, G1fl, G2fl, G3fl and G4fl.

A full list of the referenced outcomes is provided online: http://intranet.exeter.ac.uk/emps/subjects/engineering/accreditation/

The AHEP document can be viewed in full on the Engineering Council’s website, at http://www.engc.org.uk/

On successful completion of the work placement, you should be able to:
