DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

How do firms design new products, services, and business models and get new them to the market? This module provides an overview of design thinking, innovation management and entrepreneurship. It will deliver the theories, key concepts and practical tools for idea generation & selection, product/service design, business model development, strategy formulation and implementation. In this module, students will have a deep-dive into the practical exercise by using the tools for identifying new business opportunities, developing technology road-mapping, designing business models, and implementing innovation projects. Case studies, methods and tools from the latest research will be provided in the module.
 
No pre-requisite or co-requisite modules are needed to have in order to be able to take this module. This module is suitable for specialist/non-specialist students, and is recommended for interdisciplinary pathways.

AIMS - intentions of the module

The aim of the module is to introduce the theoretical and practical elements of design, innovation and entrepreneurship. This module will include the knowledge related to design thinking, innovation management, roadmapping, business model innovation and entrepreneurship. The module will introduce a set of new and emerging concepts and practical tools for students to solve the real-time challenges faced by industries. This module will adopt project-based learning approach which allows students to use provided tools to address chosen challenges within groups. There will a few group discussion and presentations in this module.

1 Gain a strong knowledge of design, innovation and entrepreneurship in marketing

2 Be able to apply the innovation methods and tools to develop new product concepts and new business models

3 Apply appropriate theories and methods/tools to new product prototype, new business models and marketing strategies
