DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

In this module you are required to undertake a business-critical project which will enable you to demonstrate your project planning and project management skills in your organisation. The project will be undertaken following discussions with your module lead and your workplace mentor to identify digital and technology solution which you feel you can provide. You will be required to act autonomously in leading the project, present your solution to senior stakeholders and construct a professional business report.

Pre-requisite modules: This module will be taken after successful completion of all other modules in the programme.

Co-requisite modules: None.

This module is a part of MSc Digital and Technology Solutions (Integrated Degree Apprenticeship) programme. It cannot be taken as an elective by students on other programmes.

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module aims to allow you to apply the knowledge, skills and behaviour gained in other modules in a significant digital and technology solution project as you would be in the position of Data Analytics Specialist, carrying a business-critical mission in your organisation. In the first place you will write a compelling technological project proposals aligned with the company’s business strategies, considering whole data analytics lifecycle from data ingestion to data transformation into actionable knowledge and deployment. This must highlight a critical awareness of the project requirements, specifications, a design road map on how to implement the technological strategy to support the development of new products, processes and services that align with the company’s business strategy, beside related ethical, social and management issues. After implementation and deployment phases you will reflect project outcomes in a well structure report and management level presentation with appropriate visualisation which resonate with senior stakeholders both business and technical.

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge

1. Demonstrate the ability to develop and communicate compelling technological project proposals in data analytics aligned with the company’s business strategies
2. Synthesis digital technology roadmaps, implementation strategies and transformation project plan to achieve improved productivity, functionality and end user experience in an area of data analytics. 
3. Demonstrate autonomous planning and implementing digital and technology project tasks at a professional level, which proves self-direction and originality.
4. Demonstrate implementation of innovative projects to support the technological strategies in development of new products, processes and services considering the whole data analytics lifecycle. 

Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge

5. Define a set of project activity tasks for designing complex IT enabled business processes that will accomplish specific organisational goals and provides a systematic approach to improving those processes.
6. Demonstrate the ability to scope and deliver data analytics projects, in response to business priorities
7. Demonstrate the application of data and visual analytics techniques within the organisation with understanding of data and visual analytics tools to apply and their outcomes   
8. Demonstrate a critical awareness of the project requirements, specifications and related ethical, social and management issues in data analytics.

Personal and Key Transferable / Employment Skills and Knowledge

9. Demonstrate the ability to develop and deliver management level presentations of data analytic project outcomes with appropriate visualisation which resonate with senior business and technical stakeholders.
10. Demonstrate the ability to professionally present digital and technology solution specialism plans and solutions in a well-structured and compelling business report suitable for a variety of stakeholders including senior clients and management, demonstrating business opportunities of the project outcomes.
11. Demonstrate results and outcomes driven to achieve high key performance outcomes for digital and technology solutions objectives. 
12. Demonstrate high levels of performance in digital and technology solutions activities.

 

SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module

Whilst the module’s precise content may vary from year to year, an example of an overall structure is as follow:

  • Introduction to the module.
  • Identification of suitable projects from within the student’s organisation or based on previous taught content for the End Point Assessment Organisation.
  • Creation of a project plan and specification with your supervisor team.
  • Implementation of the project
  • Presentation of progress updates to student and supervisor cohort.
  • Meetings with academic supervisor (face-to-face and/or online).
  • Final submission: a report and final presentation. This will lead directly to the End Point Assessment.
