Deadlines

Application deadlines for each placement will be different. This is because, just like any job application, the deadlines are set by individual work placement providers or employers. Please note, some deadlines may be as soon as mid-November, so make sure you do your research early enough!

How to apply

Just as companies set individual deadlines, they also have individual application processes. Most will consist of an application form (usually online) or the requirement to submit a CV and covering letter; some will require online psychometric tests, and many will include an interview or two. It really depends on the company so you will need to contact each enterprise or visit their website.

The Placements team can support you, for example in the form of checking CVs, covering letters and applications. If you are required to submit these written in a foreign language, then you should make an appointment with a native-speaking tutor or friend, preferably with business experience. If you require an academic reference then your personal tutor will be available to write one, as they would for any student.

Placement approval and paperwork

Please visit the Work Abroad Placements pages for more information on the approval process and the forms that you must submit.

When do you need to let Exeter know?

The deadlines for confirming a work placement and informing the Placements team are as follows:

For a Semester One placement - 1st May

For a Semester Two placement - 31st October

Please respect these deadlines and contact us with the details of your placement. If you are having difficulty securing a placement, please get in contact and we will be able to support you as necessary.

The reason we set these deadlines is because if you are unable to secure a work placement by these times, we will still have time to nominate you to a partner university. If you do not secure work after this date, and it is too late for us to secure you a study placement, then it will be your responsibility to find a replacement placement to ensure you comply with our Year Abroad requirements.
