Dr William Seviour
Senior Lecturer
Location: Harrison 335
Telephone: 01392 722730
Extension: (Streatham) 2730
I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Global Systems Institute.
I have recently started in Exeter (in June 2020), following a PhD in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Planetary Physics at Oxford, almost four years as a postdoc in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, and 18 months as a research fellow in the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol (where I still have an honorary affiliation).
I am interested in understanding the large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and oceans of Earth (and sometimes other planets too). I use a combination of idealised models, comprehensive general circulation models, and observational data. My current particular interests include:
- Polar vortex dynamics on Earth,Mars, and Titan
- Jet stream and Hadley cell variability
- Stratospheric ozone depletion
- Southern Ocean-atmosphere interactions
