Dr Mark Callaway
Senior Lecturer in Mathematics
Location: Stella Turk B046-133
I am an Education and Scholarship Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, focussed on teaching and enhancing the student learning experience. I primarily teach on the Mathematical Sciences programmes based on the Penryn Campus. My research interests lie in the field of Random Dynamical Systems.
I joined the University of Exeter in 2016 with the launch of the Mathematical Sciences programmes and have been involved in their development throughout: creating, developing and teaching on modules across all year groups and contributing more broadly to the structure of the programmes. I have particular interests in incorporating ideas from the pedagogies of Research & Problem Based Learning into mathematics teaching and creating interactive visualisations of mathematical concepts. I was honoured to receive the following teaching awards for 2019/20: Inspirational Teaching (CEMPS Winner), Students’ Guild and Students’ Union Teaching Awards 2020; Best Lecturer, College Awards 2020; Best Lecturer, MathSoc Awards 2020. I also hold the role of Senior Tutor for Mathematical Sciences in which I oversee academic and pastoral support of our students.
Before joining the University of Exeter I was a Scientist at the Met Office within the Satellite Applications group. My educational background is: MSci Physics with Astrophysics, University of Bristol; PhD Mathematics, Imperial College London.
