Kia ora! I am a Newton International Research Fellow investigating the sound from explosive volanic eruptions! I use a combination of laboratory experiments and fieldwork to understand volcanic roars better. In particular, my goal is to use sound to extract information about the eruption intensity and the amount of ash produced. The long-term goal is to provide volcano observatories with a tool to rapidly estimate eruption parameters and allow fast, accurate forecasting of ash dispersal.
I have a background in physics and have general interests in volcano subsurface systems, bubbles, fluid mechanics, making a mess in the lab and technical fieldwork with creative rope access. I'm always keen for collaborations where my skills can be applied outside of volcanology or earth sciences, so please do get in touch!
