Overview
Background
I have a background in Chemistry, with a PhD awarded in 2013 by Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal, for work in the Solid State Group. Pursuing the path of applications, I then moved to the Organic Electronics group at INESC – Microsystems and Nanotechnology in Lisbon in as a postdoctoral researcher.
Previously a Visiting Researcher at Exeter, I joined the Engineering Department in 2014 as an Associate Research Fellow working on graphene for flexible and wearable applications. I became a Lecturer in October 2016 after securing a prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship.

Other Roles
Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility
As part of the Engineering Leadership Team, and under the direction of the Head of Department, this role aims at taking forward initiatives, themes and issues relating to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility. As such, I chair the Engineering Wellbeing, Inclusion and Culture Committee (WICC) in identifying key actions to address specific EDIA and Wellbeing issues in the department. Anyone can get in touch with related concerns and they will be treated safe and confidential manner.
Academic Lead for Student Support (Racial Equality and Inclusion)
Students should get in touch if they have any concerns or need support regarding experiences of racism, racial discrimination, or discrimination against any of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act (age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil relationship, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation). I offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental place to discuss issues, problems and anxieties. Here's a list of ALSS(REI)s in other departments.Senior Tutor
I provide induction to Academic Personal Tutoring for new students, as well as guidance and resources to tutors and signpost them to student support resources within the University. Other responsibilities include overseeing the tutor allocation and deal with more complex cases. As Senior Tutor, I am a member of the Engineering Student-Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) and work with my university counterparts in the Senior Tutor Forum in sharing good practiceTeaching
My teaching spans across different subjects and disciplines, within Engineering and Natural Sciences programmes.
