Medieval Reading Group

The Medieval Reading Group meets approximately once a fortnight for stimulating and convivial discussion of medieval texts.

The range of sources is intended to encompass all genres from any date and region normally included in medieval studies. The texts are usually recommended by participants and so focus on the research interests at Exeter.

Texts discussed so far include St. Augustine's City of God, Per Abbat’s Cantar de Mio Cid, Beowulf, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Saxo Grammaticus’ Gesta Danorum, Sir Thomas Mallory’s Le Morte De Arthur, Usama Ibn Munqidh’s Book of Contemplation, Einhard’s Life of Charlemagne, Marjorie Kempe’s Book of Marjorie Kempe and Peter Abelard’s History of My Calamities, amongst many others!

If you have any ideas for future readings you are very welcome to join us and suggest a text! PGR's, from any department, are encouraged to attend the meetings, but MA's, staff and undergraduates, especially 3rd years, are also very welcome to join us for any discussions which interest them. Biscuits are provided!

We are meeting in Amory 308 at 4-5pm on Wednesdays, with the following dates:

15/10/14

29/10/14

05/11/14

19/11/14

10/12/14

If you have any queries please email Zoe Cunningham. Everyone on the medieval mailing list should receive automatic updates on the activities of the reading group.
