In this module, you will work on a research problem in Cyber Security Analytics, applying the tools and techniques that you have learned to investigate a novel aspect of cyber security and/or data analytics. This is an independent project, supervised by an expert from the relevant area, and culminates in writing a dissertation in the form of a research paper, describing your research and its results. Research topics can be selected from across the breadth of cyber security and data analytics. The project may include theoretical analysis, as well as practical software implementation.
Pre-requisites: none
Co-requisites: ECMM462, ECMM463, ECMM464, ECM444
This module aims to give you an in-depth research experience in cyber security and/or data analytics. This will prepare you for both research (in a commercial setting or further post-graduate work) and for the work as a cyber security analyst. The builds on the knowledge and skills you have acquired in the taught modules of the programme to allow you to investigate an area that is of particular interest to you (e.g., preparing further post-graduate research or specialising in an anticipated work area). It aims to give you experience of many aspects of research work and security investigations, including, e.g., problem formulation, literature review, planning, formalisation, tool development, experimentation, analysis and presentation of results.
On successful completion of this module you should be able to:
