The development and management of large-scale IT systems is a difficult and often high profile undertaking. Projects such as the NHS patient record system are a good example of this. This module will provide you with a thorough understanding of the technical and management implications of implementing large-scale IT systems. Example systems will be presented through traditional and guest lectures and through student presentations; these presentations will also allow you to develop your independent research skills. You will also undertake a substantial team project as part of this module to provide the necessary management and team working skills.
The ITMB Case Studies module aims to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the technical and management implications of implementing large- scale IT systems. The module uses both conventional lectures and “guru” lectures from influential members of industry and public organisations to deliver the latest thinking in large-scale IT management; this content is further supplemented by a tutorial programme where many of the topics introduced in lectures will be further discussed. |
