DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module will give you an overview of the current IT market in the UK as seen by those who are eminent in the field through a series of guest speakers from some of the largest companies. In addition, you will also examine what the necessary skills are to manage IT projects, from personal skills (e.g., CV writing and communication skills) to formal frameworks to manage IT projects, including ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and PRINCE2.

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module aims to give an overview of the current IT Market and provide the necessary skills to manage IT projects including personal skills, ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and PRINCE2.

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge

1. explain how the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) can be applied to IT Projects
2. apply PRINCE2 to IT Project management tasks
3. recognise and assess the importance of project management within the current IT market

Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge

4. distinguish between the contrasting methods by which IT projects can be managed
5. identify and develop the professional skills that are needed in the current IT market

Personal and Key Transferable / Employment Skills and Knowledge

6. develop the required professional skills for an IT project manager
7. construct a logical and concise argument in the form of an essay
8. provide summaries and critiques of presentations attended

You will attend the ITMB Guru lecture series where lectures are given by influential figures in large corporations and public bodies. PRINCE2 Professional skills: CV writing, communication (written and oral).
