This module is designed to offer, through directed reading, the opportunity for students to extend their knowledge of Computer Science outside the range of subjects covered by other School modules offered at an equivalent level. The opportunity for any particular student to take this module in any year is subject to the agreement between a member of staff (the potential supervisor) and the module coordinator, that the student has the requisite ability and background knowledge for independent reading in the intended subject area. Once the student (or group of students) is accepted in principle for such study the supervisor then specifies a topic for directed reading which is approved (along with associated reading matter) by the module coordinator. A student will only be permitted to take one such independent reading module in any one academic year.
