AIMS - intentions of the module

To study advanced methods for graphics rendering, scientific visualisation and image processing. Specifically, this module aims to study advanced algorithms and techniques for rendering graphics, and to introduce methods for scientific visualisation and image processing.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)
SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module

Image processing: convolution filters, non-linear filtering, Fourier space representations. Rendering, compositing and transformation of images. Anti-aliasing. Extraction of information from images: edge and object detection. Advanced graphics algorithms: hidden line and hidden polygon removal algorithms; ray-tracing, radiosity models. Animation algorithms: particle systems, flocking, texture mapping. Scientific visualisation: Contouring, isosurfaces, volume rendering, interaction in virtual reality.
