DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module will give you an overview of the current IT market and examine the necessary skills including project management, personal skills and ITIL (IT Service Management Approach).

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module aims to give an insight into the current IT market as well as equip the students with the skills required to become a successful IT project manager.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge:
1 demonstrate understanding of the IT Service Management Approach (ITIL);
2 understand the importance of project management within the current IT market;
3 demonstrate understanding of the professional skills that are needed in the current IT market.
Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge:
4 understand the ways in which IT projects can be managed;
5 apply the Service Management Approach (ITIL);
6 demonstrate the relevant professional skills.
Personal and Key Transferable/ Employment Skills and  Knowledge:
7 understand and apply the Service Management Approach (ITIL);
8 demonstrate the required professional skills for an IT project manager;
9 maintain a seminar diary.

SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module

1. Introduction to the module. 2. Guru lectures (every other week). 3. ITIL (six lectures to present foundational material). 4. Professional skills: interviews and assessments, cv, presentation (five lectures some of which are given by an external employer).

RE-ASSESSMENT NOTES

If a module is normally assessed entirely by coursework, all referred/deferred assessments will normally be by assignment.
If a module is normally assessed by examination or examination plus coursework, referred and deferred assessment will normally be by examination. For referrals, only the examination will count, a mark of 40% being awarded if the examination is passed. For deferrals, candidates will be awarded the higher of the deferred examination mark or the deferred examination mark combined with the original coursework mark.
