Guided Independent Learning

The GIL Service will be closed from April 5th to April 16th The GIL service enables you to study on your own with the support and guidance of a tutor. You can use the INTO Learning Resource Centre - including its counselling service - and web-based resources. Essentially it is a 1-2-1 guidance service that supports nearly every aspect of your university study.

Make an appointment with a tutor by email. The GIL service is only open at specific times (see below). At the first appointment we will be able to work out an individualised study programme and then follow this up with subsequent appointments when you feel you want to.

We offer support in a number of areas:
You can also ask for a writing tutorial - please mention this in your email so we can allow a longer time. You must bring your text on a memory stick or send it by email in advance so we can look at it together on a computer.
Registering and opening times - making an appointment
The first step is to to register as an insessional student and enroll in GIL.  You can then make an appointment by email (into-gil@ex.ac.uk). Please state the day, date and time you would like an appointment according to the opening times given below. Appointments are made on a strictly 'first come first served' basis. It would also help if you could think carefully about the kind of support you need.

We will normally allow 60 minutes for a writing tutorial and 30 minutes for a GIL appointment.
