Medieval Studies AHRC funded Collaborative Skills Development Programme
Interpreting our Medieval Past: A User's Guide to the Languages, Scripts and Records of Medieval Culture
Commencing in September 2013, this innovative programme, for University of Exeter and University of Bristol research students in Medieval Studies, will be delivered by staff in Exeter in collaboration with staff from the University of Bristol and five local libraries and archives with significant Medieval holdings.
Training will be provided in the following:
- one or more Medieval languages (including Latin, Old English and Medieval French)
- palaeography, codicology and diplomatic
- Medieval research skills in professional and public contexts
Training will be delivered through joint classes using original materials from the collections of Exeter Cathedral Library and Archives, Wells Cathedral Library and Archives, Devon Heritage Centre, Bristol Record Offices, and Berkeley Castle, through nine workshops in situ in these places.
There will be no need for overnight accommodation, however travel and subsistence costs will be covered as part of the programme.
Eligibility
This programme is only open to University of Exeter and University of Bristol students. You do not have to be registered in Medieval Studies, your research interests just must be in a related field. Therefore, students of History, English, Archaeology or Law, whose research focuses on the Medieval period, for example, may attend.
The programme is intended primarily for research and doctoral postgraduate Medieval Studies students, however appropriately qualified Taught Masters students may be accepted.
The programme is open to Home, EU and International fee paying students.
