AIMS - intentions of the module

To develop an understanding of the principles of land management and law in the UK.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)
SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module

Week 1: Assessment of investment market yields relating to risk. Week 2: Effects of supply and demand on land and buildings. Week 3: Introduction to methods of valuation and construction and use of valuation tables. Week 4: Discounted cash flow and net present value. Week 5: Factors influencing mineral valuations, including contamination issues; redevelopment of mineral land. Week 6: Planning permission and procedures: role of Environmental Impact Assessment. Week 7: Development plans and landscape designation. Sustainable development. Week 8: Introduction to Minerals Planning in the UK. Week 9: Introduction to Law of Property.
