DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content
AIMS - intentions of the module
This module aims to develop an integrated approach to the study of mineral deposits in the field. The module brings together subject areas that have been taught during the second and third year of the study programme. It builds on the training in safe; professional working practices in field based geology developed during previous field courses.

SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module
1. Observation and description of climatic conditions, vegetation, and soil cover of a field area (group) 2. Description and evaluation of logistic aspects with reference to a mining operation (group) 3. Synthesis of regional geological observations (group) 4. Production of a geological map and cross sections; descriptions of lithological, structural, and alteration features; assessment and evaluation of target area (individual) 5. Geotechnical measurements and assessment (group) 6. Hazard and risk assessment (group) 7. Assessment of environmental impact and considerations on regeneration after mining has ceased (group) 8. Synthesis of conclusions and recommendations (group).
