AIMS - intentions of the module
This module provides an introduction to mining software using one of the most up to date mine design software packages available. The module builds on practical elements learnt in the first and second stage of the programme.
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)
SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module
Week 1 VULCAN Basics: The course will cover, data types, to file management in VULCAN. The computer aided design (CAD) tools in Envisage will be covered in detail, along with drill hole databases, basic triangulation modelling, and basic plotting. Week 1 Mine Planning: The concept of planning an operation by division of the mine site into mine units for reserving and scheduling is covered. The course follows these guidelines: • Utilisation of pit layout tools to create mine block units • Reserving mine block units • Bench and batter (B&B) wall projections • Mine unit projections with B&B Week 2 Open Pit Design: Will show how to create and modify open pits, leach pads, dumps, and stockpiles within the VULCAN system. Creation of ramps and roads and triangulation manipulation will be covered.
