AIMS - intentions of the module
To provide an understanding of modern engineering management science and technologies, including manufacturing and information management, statistical process control, operations research, industrial systems modelling/simulation, and operational strategies.
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)
SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module
Manufacturing and information management; Batch production, scales of production, batch size optimisation, re-ordering methods, lead-time and demand uncertainties, dealing with fluctuating demands; Systems design and analysis, line balancing and layout, systems modelling/analysis techniques; Production planning, scheduling and control, quantities/mix analysis, MRP 1/2, capacity planning, JIT, Kanban, and OPT; Operational research models and methods, linear and non-linear programming, dynamic programming, queuing theory and networks. Discrete event simulation, event, activity and process based simulation, construction of simulation models, petri-net, modern web-based and distributed simulations, Witness simulation of industrial problems; Information systems and management, database management, information systems; Statistical process control, project/marketing management, operational strategies.
