DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module will give you the chance to meet a business need using IT, to develop and showcase your professional skills and to consolidate the knowledge, understanding, techniques and methods that you have acquired in the taught modules. Using independent learning skills, such as organisation, time management and the ability to conduct research effectively, you will apply this knowledge by producing an information system for a business organisation, using an appropriate development method.



Prerequisite module: ECM2413 or equivalent

 

AIMS - intentions of the module

The aim of this module is to extend the knowledge you have acquired so far on your degree programme and to enable you to demonstrate and apply your computing and business knowledge and skills to an individual project.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)

On successful completion of this module, you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge:
1 follow the phases of system development, as specified by an appropriate development method;
2 apply appropriate methods and techniques at each phase of the development;
3 specify, design, implement, test, evaluate and demonstrate a working system.
 
Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge:
4 analyse a business problem, collect relevant information, and provide a suitable business case;
5 produce full documentation as appropriate to the system and development method;
6 demonstrate a software system;
7 undertake change management.
 
Personal and Key Transferable/ Employment Skills and  Knowledge:
8 conduct independent study, including library and web-based searching, and the use of software documentation;
9 reflect critically on processes and products;
10 manage time and plan effectively.
11 present your chosen solution.

RE-ASSESSMENT NOTES

In case of failure or non-submission, the student will be required to submit a revised project by the week of the referred examinations. Where the student has been referred, the mark will be capped at 40%.
