DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module represents the work that you do for your employer. It provides an opportunity for you to develop mastery by continuing to build on your prior learning and experience and to apply what you have learned during the apprenticeship in your day-to-day work. You will continue to hone your workplace skills and behaviours. The aim is to further the process of integration and internalisation of skills and knowledge which began in years 1 and 2 of the course. As a reflective practitioner, you will demonstrate a self-sustaining personal improvement cycle in which you regularly and routinely reflect on your own practice and adapt the way you work to improve your own effectiveness as an IT professional.

 

Your employer will contribute to the assessment of your performance in this module. Any issues with confidentiality and/or security will be addressed between the university, your employer and you, allowing for projects of business value to be undertaken using real data where possible. Throughout this module you will be in regular contact with your academic mentor.

 

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module involves project work, completed as part of your normal day-to-day work, in which you apply the skills and knowledge that you have acquired during the course.

 

The aims of this module are to ensure that you maintain an optimal and self-sustaining cycle of learning, practice and reflection as an integral part of your professional life, and to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate a high standard in the practice of your occupational specialism.

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge

1. Fluent in written communications and able to articulate complex issues.

2. Make concise, engaging and well-structured verbal presentations, arguments and explanations.

3. Deal with different, competing interests within and outside the organisation with excellent negotiation skills.

4. Identify the preferences, motivations, strengths and limitations of other people and apply these insights to work more effectively with and to motivate others.

5. Competent in active listening and in leading, influencing and persuading others.

6. Give and receive feedback constructively and incorporate it into his/her own development and life-long learning.

7. Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to Technology Solutions development and to systematically analyse and apply structured problem solving techniques to complex systems and situations.

Further learning outcomes for the module may be agreed in advance between you, your employer and your academic mentor. The learning outcomes to be achieved will depend on the employer’s needs and your role, but will be broadly in line with the outcomes documented in the apprenticeship standard for your occupational specialism.

RE-ASSESSMENT NOTES

Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be deferred in the assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you may be required to sit a referral. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of referral will be capped at 40%.
