DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module represents the work that you do for your employer. It provides an opportunity for you to apply what you have learned during the apprenticeship in your day-to-day work and to develop useful workplace skills and behaviours. The aim is to allow integration and internalisation of skills and knowledge. You will be expected to become a reflective practitioner, consciously reflecting on your own practice and adapting accordingly.

 

Your employer will contribute to the assessment of your performance in this module. Any issues with confidentiality and/or security will be addressed between the university, your employer and you, allowing for projects of business value to be undertaken using real data where possible. Throughout this module you will be in regular contact with your academic mentor.

 

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module involves project work, completed as part of your normal day-to-day work, in which you apply the skills and knowledge that you have acquired during the course.

 

The aim of this module is to ensure that you engage in a cycle of learning, practice and reflection as an integral part of your professional life.

 

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge

1. Write fluently written communications and be able to articulate complex issues.

2. Make concise, engaging and well-structured verbal presentations, arguments and explanations.

3. Deal with different, competing interests within and outside the organisation with excellent negotiation skills.

4. Identify the preferences, motivations, strengths and limitations of other people and apply these insights to work more effectively with and to motivate others.

5. Be competent in active listening and in leading, influencing and persuading others.

6. Give and receive feedback constructively and incorporate it into your own development and life-long learning.

7. Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to Technology Solutions development and to systematically analyse and apply structured problem solving techniques to complex systems and situations.

8. Put forward, demonstrate value and gain commitment to a moderately complex technology-oriented solution, demonstrating understanding of business need, using open questions and summarising skills and basic negotiating skills.

Further learning outcomes for the module may be agreed in advance between you, your employer and your academic mentor. RE-ASSESSMENT NOTES

Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be deferred in the assessment. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you may be required to sit a referral. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of referral will be capped at 40%.
